Twisted Sister Slot: Overview

Are you going to take it, gamers? No? Well, neither are hair rockers Twisted Sister, who literally wrote the book on defying authority. If you’re feeling the need to blow off some steam, then get ready to rage against the machine with Play’n GO’s 80s heavy metal themed Twisted Sister slot. The band explode in a riot of colour in a grid slot packing in features like it packs in attitude.

Being fans of the band ourselves, we've been dying to see this slot in action ever since it was announced by Play'n GO. As luck would have it, we get it in a grid slot format which is a territory that is very much dominated by Play'n GO and that has been perfected by them.

Even if you're not too familiar with the band, there's still a good chance that you've heard their super hit "We're Not Gonna Take It" which has been ranked the 47th greatest 80s song by VH1. Although the band has enjoyed a long career, spanning nearly four decades and six albums, it's their third studio album Stay Hungry that stands out as their best work. Released in 1984, it includes hits such as "Stay Hungry", "We're Not Gonna Take It", "I Wanna Rock", and mighty power ballad titled "The Price".

So, firing up the game, what is the first impression? Admittedly, it could have been a bit more in your face visually, but the palette, the towering speakers and the band's music bring the 80s screaming back to life. Taking centre stage is a 6x6 grid that tumbles in 36 band infused symbols to hit winners via a cluster pays system. Spin costs start at 10 p/c and can be raised to a maximum level of $/€100 for the higher rollers to cut loose.

Wins are achieved by getting 5 or more symbols in a cluster. Winning symbols are then removed from the grid to let new ones fill into the gaps. This can lead to multiple clusters on a single spin, and cascades continue to occur until no more wins are created. Consecutive high pay wins also trigger features we will cover in the next section.

Before then, we’ll dissect the math model, which isn’t quite as hardcore as you might expect from a bunch of rockers. For one, volatility has been set on a medium level (6/10) and may cause the game to appeal to a more laid back gambling crowd.

RTP may vary as it often does with Play’n GO thanks to their configurable options. On the higher end, the default return to player rating clocks in at 96.2%, so slightly above average. Taking a few moments to check the rules before firing up is a sound idea since RTP can be found a few points lower.

Interestingly, the first slot that sprang to mind during testing was Black Mamba; another a cluster pays slot by Play’n GO. Both games are band-centric, but it’s the symbols that rang the bell. They both have similar looking low pays made up of badges, and guitar picks, with five premiums depicting the original band members. As you’d expect, lead singer Dee Snider is the most valuable in the rabble worth 250 times the stake for a cluster of 25 or more symbols. The pink wild is handy here, substituting for any pay symbol to help pull together a cluster.

Twisted Sister Slot: Features

Base game

Amplifying the effects of clusters are a collection of features. For starters, all winning band member symbols fill the Guitar Charge meter by 1, which can hold up to 15 charges at the most. Band features are unleashed one by one if there are at least 5 charges in the meter after wins are calculated and there are no more cascades. One of the band members is selected at random with all corresponding symbols benefiting from the effect of the modifiers - this can also apply to low pay symbols. This is what each modifier has to offer:

  • Scream destroys all of the non-band symbols around the selected symbol type.
  • Go Wild turns the selected symbol type into wilds.
  • Unite transforms symbols into the selected symbols.

Remember the angry dad from the video to the song We’re Not Gonna Take It? Take a look above the Guitar Charge Meter to find the Angry Dad Meter. The meter has 4 segments that are filled one by one whenever an Angry Dad wild scatter is used as part of a win.

When the meter is full, the We’re Not Gonna Take It feature is triggered. Any additional Angry Dad scatters overcharges the meter and bumps up the win multiplier by +1. The grid then clears, and a new round begins with a 2x2 Mega Band symbol attempting to throw off the Angry Dads. The round continues until all the Angry Dads are taken out and there are no more wins.

Twisted Sister Slot: Verdict

’I Wanna Rock’, sang front man Dee in the classic Twisted Sister track, so players are no doubt wondering just how hard the slot version rocks. Well, it rocks, but it could have rocked harder truth be told. If you like the band or the era though, it’s hard not to crack a smile over what Play’n GO has done here.

Twisted Sister is one of the more recognisable bands to hit slots and that factor alone is sure to pull some punters through the gate. From a purely gaming standpoint, however, it's a less volatile version of the Black Mamba slot in many ways whilst also being a far cry from their best work in the genre Reactoonz. Needless to say, Twisted Sister is a game that will cater to a very specific audience.

Those looking for big volatility and massive payouts probably won’t find them with Twisted Sister. Potential weighs in at 4,500 times the stake, which is a little less than we normally find from this developer, but pretty decent still. With that said, big wins are a bit rare here as the volatility is lower than what many will be used to when it comes to Play'n GO grid slots. Since the bonus is guaranteed to pay, it doesn't collect those large jackpots as effectively as more volatile slots tend to do.

So yes, Play’n GO has gone for the middle ground in regards to the math model. Put it this way; if you went to this Twisted Sister slot concert, you’d be seated to watch the spectacle rather than banging around a mosh pit. That’s cool though, you don’t have to slam up against sweaty bodies to have fun. It’s nice to kick back in a comfy chair to enjoy a show, which is more the vein Twisted Sister the slot taps into.

Overall, Twisted Sister is yet another excellent grid slot release from Play'n GO who have become one of the best producers in the genre. Those who will get the most enjoyment of this title, of course, are all the fans of the band. Us included.

Don't Miss

If you like the rock music series of slots coming from Play'n GO, be sure to have a look at ZZ Top Roadside Riches as well which comes with two different free spin modes and two special wild base game features.

Good

Twisted Sister is a fun treat for all fans of the legendary band, but as a Play’n GO grid slot it’s more of the same – for better or worse.
