The Good, The Bad, and The Rich: Slot Overview

One of the most famous spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s was the Sergio Leone-directed film ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly‘, starring Clint Eastwood and featuring that famous tune. So famous that even if you have never watched a Western, there’s a good chance you will have heard the song before. Perhaps the movie (or the tune) was on the mind of developer Red Tiger when it was rummaging around for slot ideas, as the studio has come up with The Good, The Bad, and The Rich, a slot which does not appear to have any official links to the movie, other than a similar, quite clever name.

Players step into a pretty stock standard Wild Western town when entering The Good, The Bad, and The Rich. Tumbleweeds and dust blow past the bank, which appears to be the building in the middle of the screen behind the gaming grid. Sacks of dollars literally sit all by themselves on the ground, which is a bold move in a lonesome Western town like this. Those cash bags were about the only stand-out visual detail in a setting which stays the same in free spins, except the sun is setting.

The Good, The Bad, and The Rich’s game grid is interesting in that for most of the time, the 5×3 reelset utilises 25 paylines, but when triggering a certain feature, it flips to 243 ways to win. Not very often, but this switch is something to keep an eye out for. Another thing to do is choose a bet, and the options range from 10 c to $/€8 per spin. Volatility is on the high side, while the top available RTP is right at 96%.

Westernified 10-A royals are The Good, The Bad, and The Rich’s lower paying symbols, awarding 4 times the bet for a 5 OAK winning combination. The higher pays are horseshoes, hats, bags of coins, watches, and cash registers, paying 6 to 20 times the bet for a 5 symbol win. Wilds appear on each of the reels. They substitute for all paying symbols, as well as being worth 20x for an all wild 5 OAK.

The Good, The Bad, and The Rich: Slot Features

The Good, The Bad, and The Rich has 3 progress stages situated above the reels. Each progress stage requires the collection of 10 Progress symbols from the reels when these symbols hit. Progress scatters are the crossed gun symbols that land on reels 2, 3, and 4. Progress is locked per bet level.

Once a progress stage is complete, a feature is unlocked. The unlocked feature always triggers on the next spin after being unlocked and can trigger at random on future spins. It is possible for more than one feature to trigger at the same time as long as they are unlocked. If a feature triggers and it does not produce a win, the feature stays for future spins until a win occurs.

  • Remove Royals – when triggered, all royal symbols are removed from the reels and do not land on the spin. If a win does not result, royals remain removed for the following spins until a win hits.
  • Random Wilds – when triggered, a random number of wilds land on reels 2, 3, and 4. If a win does not result, wilds are placed on the reels on the next spin until a win appears.
  • 243 Ways To Pay & Stacked Symbols – when triggered, pay symbols come in stacks of 3 and wins are evaluated using 243 ways. If a win does not result, the rules stay like this until a win hits.

Free Spins

Getting 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the grid results in 10, 12, or 15 free spins, respectively, being awarded. Scatters and Progress scatters do not land in the bonus round. During the free spins feature, unlocked features trigger more often, and each time a feature does trigger, +1 free spin is granted.

The Good, The Bad, and The Rich: Slot Verdict

Don’t want to be that one cynic, but was The Good, The Bad, and The Rich only brought into existence because someone at Red Tiger first thought of a clever name then charged the design team with turning it into a game? You gotta be big on two things to really get the most out of The Good, The Bad, and The Rich. One is the Wild West, especially since its representation here scores quite highly on the generic scale. The other is progress elements, like that seen in 10,001 Nights Megaways, where stages need to be completed before the features become available. Dig those two and you’re golden in this game. If not, well…

It didn’t take long to unlock the three features. Approximately 80 spins for the first feature, 65-ish for the second, and around 70 for the third. It almost makes the need for the progress system redundant. Why not just let them loose from the beginning? Perhaps doing things this way creates some sort of hook for certain gamblers, who start collecting Progress scatter symbols and develop a burning urge to see everything through till the end. Each feature isn’t bad – royals removal, random wilds, 243 ways + stacked symbols, with combinations of them a technical possibility.

Another possibility is walking away with wins of up to 10,462.7 times the stake. The Good, The Bad, and The Rich wasn’t the most noteworthy Western slot to come moseying our way by a long shot, but technically, the game’s features are able to work together quite successfully for players possessing the right mixture of patience to unlock everything, and luck.

Mediocre

Solid stats and features make The Good, The Bad, and The Rich a decent, though not exceptional, Western slot.
