Ted 2 Afterparty: Slot Overview
'No matter how big a splash you make in this world, whether you're Corey Feldman, Frankie Muniz, Justin Bieber or a talking teddy bear, eventually, nobody gives a sh*t.' Even so, software developer Lucksome is looking to make another splash with everyone's favourite trash-talking soft toy, Ted, in the online slot Ted 2 Afterparty. This is by no means the furry wee guy's first whirl on the reels. Blueprint Gaming took the opportunity when releasing branded slot Ted in 2017, followed later on by Ted Pub Fruit, Ted Jackpot King, Ted Megaways, and Ted Cash and Lock. That's a lot of Ted, but if you can't get enough, join us as we get all foul-mouthed with Ted 2 Afterparty.
Ted 2 Afterparty begins the base game shenanigans in a store-like environment, all ordered shelves and products. Guess this is where partygoers buy the goodies they require to see them through a night of debauchery. When the Cash Feature bonus round is active, that's when a rough night of festivities looks like it has taken place, and the goodies have been consumed. Not sure about the location for free spins; maybe fans can explain that one. Rock music, jazzy lounge music, reggae, censored voice-overs, cut scenes, and an image or two from films - Ted 2 Afterparty's audiovisuals stick well to the spirit of the movies.
When selecting a stake, players can choose a wager from 10 cents on the lower side up to $/€100 a game round at the most. When betting like this, Ted 2 Afterparty's RTP is 95.04%, though the return value gets a little higher when buying your way into the bonus rounds. Volatility has a medium, 6 out of 10 rating, while a gold-bordered 5x4 grid with 50 paylines is the general active area.
Winplan time, which is where we come across the J-A pay royals and six-pack of beer lows, then a duck, a gent, and two lady character symbols as the rest. Hitting a 5 OAK beer or royal win pays 0.5 to 1 times the stake, while 5 OAK of the other symbols pay 1 to 3 times the bet. Also appearing on all reels, wilds substitute for any regular pay symbol and are worth 20 times the bet for a 5 wild winning line.
Ted 2 Afterparty: Slot Features
Ted 2 isn't quite the feature fest Ted 1 from Blueprint Gaming was, where its two central extras are free spins without royal symbols or bottles, plus an expandable Cash Feature hold 'n win round.
Free Spins
Hitting scatter symbols on reels 2, 3, and 4 in the base game awards 10 free spins. For the free spins round, players benefit by not having royal symbols or beer bottle symbols on the reels. Any Ted cash symbol landing in this feature directly pays its displayed prize value unless 4 or more Teds hit, in which case the Cash feature triggers. Free spins cannot be retriggered.
Cash Feature
The Cash feature is triggered by landing 4 or more Ted symbols in the base game or during free spins. It starts on a 5x4 gaming grid but can grow to 5x8. Ted symbols reveal cash values or jackpot prizes, worth between 1x and 2,500x the bet. Landing a new Ted symbol locks it in place and resets the spin count to 3. Collecting a certain number of Ted Cash symbols unlocks additional rows - 8, 12, 16, or 20 Ted Cash symbols equate to 1, 2, 3, or 4 rows unlocked. An extra row is unlocked if the feature is triggered with 8 or more Ted symbols. Line wins are not possible in the Cash Feature.
Bonus Buy
The bonus buy is where players buy the Cash feature or the 10 free spins feature. Both have the same cost of 50 times the bet. The bonus buy RTP is 95.14%.
Ted 2 Afterparty: Slot Verdict
One of the first questions that came to mind while reviewing Ted 2 Afterparty was, why now? Ted 2, the movie, came out in 2015, a cool 9 years before Ted 2 Afterparty the slot. Maybe the Lucksome crew were fresh off a movie night, putting on some of their favourites, when the foul mouth soft toy stuck, and the development team got hot to revisit the Ted slot range. Or, maybe Ted 2 Afterparty's release has something to do with the Ted TV series, which dropped in the same year. Guess we'll never know, but the positive news for fans is Ted is back, baby, in an amusing mash-up of low-brow humour and film references.
As for features, Ted 2 Afterparty is not as packed to the rafters as Blueprint Gaming's slot Ted was. Ted was one of those games that would send forth a shower of features, modifiers, and extras if accidentally pricked with a sharp object. Ted 2 Afterparty reigns the extras in, numerically speaking. Both bonus rounds here were surprisingly plain for a Lucksome slot, too. Free spins minus royals and bottles, a basic hold 'n win round, nothing wrong with them, but not much here gameplay-wise rose above the status of plain either. Free spins, hmm, even a full screen of the highest value premium would be worth 150x, and the inclusion of jackpot style prize symbols is somewhat overdone at the time of writing, in part thanks to the flood of them coming out of the Games Global studios corner.
Blueprint Gaming, using its astute business acumen, struck while the iron was hot when it dropped the original Ted slot. Coming sooner after the movies meant the game arrived on the scene to a certain amount of hype. Ted 2 Afterparty, coming so much later than the movies (though admittedly more in time for the TV show), needed to work a bit harder to bathe in the on-screen glow. In some ways, it does, in some ways, it doesn't, and whilst a draw for fans, the ultimately plain features meant Ted 2 Afterparty lived up to its name as if an afterthought to a main event.
Mediocre
Ted 2 Afterparty should be a rib tickler for fans of the films, but it relies a bit too heavily on the brand to bring customers through the door.
