Sweet Gummy: Slot Overview

Software provider AvatarUX has indulged its candy fantasies and come up with the sugar-encrusted online slot Sweet Gummy. Sweet Gummy is set in a blurry, pink sweet shop as if seen through the eyes of someone who has overdone the gummy bears and is about to pass over from full consciousness into a blissed-out gelatine haze where everything feels right with the world. Just kidding, of course, it pays not to overdo the candy. Sweet Gummy doesn't really overdo the candy either, in that it's not one of those slots which takes place in an all-you-can-eat sugar land. The inclusion of monster character symbols adds a tangent, but Sweet Gummy remains a cute, pastel candy game, no doubt.

A 5x5 grid is the main gaming area, while next to it is a special Wild Reel covered in blank spaces and/or reward symbols. Across the reels, 40 paylines are what Sweet Gummy uses to calculate winning combinations of 3 to 5 of a kind. Beneath the outer shell, in the heart of this lolly, is a medium volatile math model, generating a theoretical RTP of 96%. Base bets are 10 c to $/€100, and if activating the ante bet, the wager increases by 50% with a three-fold increase in the frequency of free spins.

Sweet Gummy: Slot Features

The goal of Sweet Gummy is to get wilds on the main reels, then affect them with added multipliers, as well as a cloning process via rewards from the Wild Reel. In free spins, wilds stay on the screen, either moving down a position or being sticky for a spin, which can be bought or naturally triggered.

Wild Reel

To the left of the main grid is a Reward Reel. On each spin, the Wild Reel lands reward symbols or blank spaces. Each reward applies to wild symbols on the same row as it on the main grid. Rewards are applied from the bottom of the Wild Reel up. The Wild Reel Rewards are:

• Multiplier Wild - all wilds on the row get a multiplier as shown on the symbol.
• Clone Wild - each wild on the row is cloned a number of times, as shown on the symbol.
• Multiplier and Clone Wild - all wilds on the row get a Multiplier and are cloned to random positions across the reels.

Wilds

Wilds may land on any reel, substituting for any regular pay symbols. If a wild has a multiplier, it applies to the total win of each payline it is part of. When more than one wild is part of the same win, the multiplier values are added together. During the clone process, if a wild lands on an existing wild, they merge, and any multiplier values are added.

Free Spins

Free spins are triggered by collecting at least 2 scatter symbols. When free spins are triggered, the scatter symbols transform into wilds. On each spin, wild symbols on the reels move down one position until they leave from the bottom row. New wilds can still hit. Randomly, any number of wilds can become sticky for the spin, retaining their current position. When scatter symbols hit, each one awards +1 free spin.

Xpress

The Xpress is where users are able to activate four bonus buys, plus the ante bet: Bonus - 60x the bet for 5 free spins and 2 starting wilds. Bonus Plus - 120x the bet for 7 free spins and 3 starting wilds. Bonus Ultra - 250x the bet for 9 free spins and 4 starting wilds. Bonus Max - 500x the bet for 12 free spins and 5 starting wilds.

Sweet Gummy: Slot Verdict

Here is something you don't see every day: a non-PopWins AvatarUX slot that does not have the Mr Wu stamp on it. And the result? Well, despite having used the word twenty or so times already, Sweet Gummy is actually a rather sweet game, with a handful of delights for candy-minded players to sink their gnashers into. In the past, AvatarUX has treated gamblers to a rewards reel concept in the form of the ZapReel, as seen in LooneyPop, for example. However, the two reward reel mechanisms are quite different to each other in various ways, and this variety, having two separate systems to choose from, is no bad thing.

The positives of the Wild Reel in Sweet Gummy are apparent at times in the base game. When you manage to line a reward symbol up with a wild or two, tastes of the potential are hinted at. When free spins are activated, the game steps up several notches, and on a side note, natural triggers occurred relatively often during the review, which was appreciated. What made the bonus round interesting was the way wild symbols drop a position (or stick) on each spin, so they are able to stack their multiplier values on their journey down the grid. Since new wilds may also land, or existing wilds can be cloned, it is possible to have a substantial number of multiplier wilds on the board. Okay, Sweet Gummy doesn't have a ways to win pay system, which AvatarUX usually favours, but 40 paylines turned out to be a useful amount, and the max win is 10,000x the bet.

There was a hint of Pragmatic Play's Candy Blitz Bomb to Sweet Gummy, but only a hint, never a feeling that AvatarUX was out to steal ideas like Arthur Slugworth ripping off recipes from Willy Wonka. Having conquered the PopWins, replacing winning symbols with two to grow the reels space, AvatarUX has again shown its talent for injecting excitement into a slot via a separate rewards reel.
