Napoleon Megaways: Slot Overview
Napoleon, that naughty (or nice, depending on your views) chap who carved up Europe and bits of the Middle East in the 18th and 19th centuries, is back for more. More gambling action that is, rather than conquering, in Blueprint Gaming's online slot Napoleon Megaways. Le Petit Caporal, as he was sometimes known, has previously been the leading man in Blueprint Gaming's 2018 slot Napoleon Rise of an Empire, Napoleon Deluxe, and Lucksome's Napoleon 2 - the one with the Fat Stacks in it. Adding to the primordial soup that was Napoleon Megaways' birthing point is Eye of Horus Megaways, which Napoleon Megaways has basically been reskinned form, so man or woman, the binoculars for expanding wild symbols and symbol upgrade free spins.
Mist drifts over a murky battlefield where a lone cannon has been placed in the lower right corner. Visually, not much separates the Napoleon series of slots from Blueprint and Lucksome. Hey, they hit on something they liked, and they're sticking with it. The sparse base game view means there isn't much to comment on other than to say that players who have liked what they have seen so far will probably like this, too. Unless they're bored by the grass and mist and have a hankering for more dynamic optics, maybe an actual battle or two, perhaps. To be fair, the free spins round is more action-oriented.
Napoleon 2 expanded on the original's gaming area, and Napoleon Megaways advances this idea further. It's not the most expansive Megaways game ever invented, but its 6 reels land up to 5 symbols on each, providing up to 15,625 ways to win. A trip to the paytable confirmed the RTP in this medium-high volatile slot is 95.49%, while bets of 10 c up to $/€10 may be wagered.
Charging across the battlefield are J to A card rank symbols, paying 0.4 times the stake for a 6-of-a-kind winning combination. They are joined by drums, pistols, cannons, horses, ships, and soldiers, awarding 0.8 to 20 times the bet for 6 OAK.
Napoleon Megaways: Slot Features
Blink and you'll miss this section as Napoleon Megaways' modest list of features includes expanding Napoleon Wilds and free spins with a high pay symbol upgrade mechanism.
Napoleon Wild Symbol
Appearing on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 is the Napoleon Wild, which substitutes for all other symbols except scatters. The Napoleon Wild expands to cover all positions on the reel it landed on.
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols in any position awards 2x, 20x, 50x, or 100x the bet, respectively, plus 12 free spins. During free spins, each landed Napoleon Wild symbol upgrades the high-pay symbols in order. From drum to guns, guns to cannon, cannon to horse, horse to ship, and ship to soldier. Also, landing 1, 2, 3, or 4 Napoleon Wilds awards an extra 1, 3, 5, or 7 free spins, respectively. The free spins round can be retriggered, and a cash award paid by landing 3+ scatters.
Napoleon Megaways: Slot Verdict
Swap out the hieroglyphs and the heat for cavalry, guns, and a bicorne hat and you've pretty much got the gist of Napoleon Megaways. Blueprint Gaming once again proves it is a master of recycling, and for Napoleon Megaways, they've merged two popular slots into one convenient location. Well, it is convenient for Eye of Horus Megaways and/or Napoleon Rise of an Empire supporters, if a bit 'uh huh, no' for the cynics. For players who did get a tickle out of Rise of an Empire, the wild multiplier effect may not be as immediately thrilling this time around. Wilds technically do get a multiplier since they count as the number of individual positions they occupy after expanding, but it's not quite the same as the way Rise of an Empire chucked a multiplier on a win line, depending on how many wilds were part of that line. Reviving the Napoleon Streak might have been interesting, too.
Napoleon Megaways certainly doesn't confuse the picture in any way. For a Megaways game, it's remarkably simple, just as its forebear further along the family tree was. One thing to potentially be aware of is the number of dead spins that flooded the review. Both in the main game and in free spins, dead spins appeared to be quite common. In the bonus round it felt like the game was saving its RTP up, progressing through symbol upgrades with little wins on the way, before letting loose with a decent-ish hit. Or not. It was interesting to see the gaming grid struggle at timers to land premium symbol wins, even when all but the highest pay symbol had been upgraded.
But, like a successful infantry charge, players might get lucky, and at their luckiest, Napoleon Megaways caps wins at €/$250,000 without mentioning the actual xbet potential. What's good about Napoleon Megaways is that willing participants, if they're clued up on Blueprint Gaming and friends' portfolios, will have an excellent idea of what to expect, with little to no nasty surprises should they choose to take the game on. The opposite also applies, however, and bayonet jabs of negativity may be induced if you were expecting Napoleon Megaways to instigate a neat little nudge along the evolutionary pathway.
Fair
Napoleon Megaways rehashes familiar mechanics from earlier titles, but ultimately feels like more of the same with little fresh to offer.
