Lady of Fortune Remastered is a do-over of a Play'n GO slot you have to go way back to 2014 to find. Well, that's not true; time machines are not a requirement to play the original, but just making the point that Lady of Fortune was released 10 years before this here remastered version. Why remake this destiny, crystal ball-themed slot now, you may be asking. It's a pertinent question. Let's see if we can answer that before the review is done.

Getting the play session off to a good start, the new visuals are a vast improvement over the older Lady of Fortune slot. The original is showing its age, with the dated UI and the payline numbers lining each side of the outer reels. Lady of Fortune Remastered is a heavier game, too, darker on the colour palette, and the skull sitting on a shelf in the background doesn't feel overly fortuitous. One of the original slots' naive charms was its use of 'lucky' items as pay symbols, such as rabbit's feet, four-leaf clovers, and horseshoes. Those are gone for Lady of Fortune Remastered, with more general items of enigma used in their place. The lady's green eyes are more piercing than ever, though, if that's any compensation.

A 5-reel, 3-row matrix is the gaming area with 15 paylines for lining up wins. Winning combinations can be 3 to 5 symbols in length, and wins can start on the first 3 reels, not just the leftmost. Rated 4 out of 10 for volatility, Lady of Fortune Remastered falls in the low to medium volatility range, offering bets between 15 cents and $/€60 per spin. It comes in five RTP configurations, with the most favorable setting providing a 96.2% return to player.

Inspecting the pay symbols in closer detail now, we find, from lowest value to the highest, swords, scales, cups, moons, books, bottles, and rings, worth 5 to around 66.67 times the bet for a 5 OAK winning combination.

Wild Symbols

Lady of Fortune Remastered has 4 wild symbols with values of x2, x3, x4, and x5. Wilds substitute for any other symbol except scatters, and they land only on the third reel. A winning combination that includes a wild is multiplied by x2, x3, x4, or x5.

Pick-a-Prize Bonus

Scatters are present on the leftmost, middle, and rightmost reel. Hitting 3 scatters triggers the Pick-a-Prize bonus. Players select one of the tarot cards to reveal a prize of up to 1,500x the bet.

Gamble Round

When achieving a win in the main game, players may engage in the optional gamble round. Correctly guessing the colour of a face-down card doubles the current win. Correctly guessing the suit of a face-down card quadruples the win. The Gamble round can be played up to 5 times in a row and up to a 2,500 coin limit.

Lady of Fortune Remastered: Slot Verdict

Yeah, okay, hmm. Not sure what to make of this. Presumably for ultra fans of the first Lady of Fortune slot who just can't let go, Lady of Fortune Remastered could be the fulfilment of their deepest desires. That sounds like a stretch, though, since there is little this one does, which the original didn't. It is more immersive, not to mention more up-to-date looking, as the wide-eyed optimism of the original has been replaced with a contemporary jaded cynicism. After all, Lady of Fortune was released pre-pandemic, before Brexit and a certain presidency reshaped the world.

On the other hand, you know something might be up when more text is spent describing a simple side Gamble round than any of the game's other features. They've pretty much all stayed the same. Pay from the first three reels wins, wild multipliers, and the pick bonus. The only comment to make about that is the biggest pick prize has mushroomed from 150x to a chunkier 1,500x. Lady of Fortune Remastered is not a monster potential game, though, hitting its maximum payout possibilities a little bit past the biggest pick win at 1,523.33x the bet.

Googling 'pointless remasters' returns a bunch of results. Lady of Fortune Remastered did not appear to be on page one, and we weren't brave enough to venture into the cold wasteland of page two and beyond. At the conclusion of the review, Lady of Fortune Remastered didn't feel pointless per se, but redundant. Perhaps Play'n GO is priming players for a release of Lady of Fortune 2; perhaps it was feeling nostalgic. Who knows what the studio's motivation for the overhaul was, but for better or for meh, here we are with a more handsomely presented remastered edition.
