Honey Rush (Play'n GO): Overview
What's the deal with Bees and hexagons patterns anyway? Surely, at some point in your life, you must have stared at a honeycomb and contemplated: Why do the cells look like that. Why aren't they shaped like squares, rectangles or triangles? For some mysterious reason, these diligent ant-related insects choose hexagons - with no exception! The geometrical shape of the hexagon is so strongly associated with bees that it would have been unthinkable for Play'n GO to create a slot such as Honey Rush without incorporating them, one way or another. And just to add, the hexagons constructed by bees are not just some sloppy six-sided hexagons - they're perfectly shaped and of equal length.
Well, the answer is simple, after all - nature likes to do things efficiently. You see, the hexagon is only one of three geometrical shapes with equal sides that can fit together on a flat surface without leaving room for gaps. Of these three, the hexagon happens to be the most compact one, requiring the least amount of wax to construct the honeycomb. If you want to learn more about the subject, we suggest you watch BBC's documentary Behind the Beehive.
With the basics already covered, let's dive straight into it! Honey Rush is the title of a highly volatile slot from Play'n GO which is played on a 4-5-6-7-6-5-4 reel formation with tiles in the shape of, you guessed it - hexagons! Playable from 0.20 to €/$100 per spin, it's yet another addition to the studios massively popular collection of grid slots where cluster mechanics are used instead of traditional payline formations. At the core of Honey Rush is the 4-level charge meter which can deliver a healthy dose of sticky wilds with multipliers of up to 3x and add clusters made up of a whopping 37 symbols.
With cartoon-style visuals, a forest serves as the setting for Honey Rush where shades of green dominate the blurry backdrop whilst the hexagon grid appears suspended in the air above a couple of branches that almost seem to shape a natural crest. It looks phenomenal we have to say and awfully inviting. On the reels, the lower-value symbols are represented by 4 different species of flower of which the sunflower is the most lucrative, giving you 20 times your stake for a cluster of 35+. Even more rewarding are the bronze, silver and gold coins along with the diamond which is the top payer here, giving you 50, 100, or 200 times your stake for a cluster of 25+, 30+, or 35+ respectively.
Honey Rush (Play'n GO): Features
As you may be used to from other Play'n GO grid slots such as Mahjong 88, Tome of Madness, and Rise of Olympus to name a few, the game utilizes Cascading Symbols. Wins are formed by landing clusters of 5 or more adjacently connected symbols - when you trigger a win, all symbols that are part of the winning combination are removed from the reels and replaced with new ones, thus allowing for repeated wins from a single spin.
Another familiar element is the charge meter. Positioned to the right of the game area, it's known as the Rush Meter here. Made up of 4 levels, all wins contribute to charging the meter - when a level has been secured, its respective feature is activated and put on hold. When the cascade sequence comes to a stop and no more wins are achieved, the active features come into play.
To reach level 1, 2 or 3, you're required to collect 20, 40 or 80 symbols respectively. Each of these will activate the Drone Colony, which creates a minimum cluster of 7 symbols before adding a sticky wild to the grid. To reach level 4 and trigger the Queen Colony, you need to charge the meter with 160 symbols. The equivalent of Reactoonz's 'Gargantoon' feature, it can create a cluster of up to 37 symbols, which is the full screen! Moreover, a Worker Colony feature can also be triggered randomly following a non-winning spin and can create a cluster of up to 15 symbols.
The wild, which is represented by a honey pot, can only appear on the grid as a result of the Rush Meter and is always added in a random position on the 2nd ring of symbols counting from the outside. Furthermore, the wilds change position after each cascade and can come with multiplier values of up to 3x.
Honey Rush (Play'n GO): Verdict
In writing, Honey Rush may seem like a complicated slot but is actually quite straightforward once you get going. Before you start spinning, however, it can be good to know that it's highly volatile, which means you should be prepared for plenty of dry spells in-between the hits. In other words, you will get stung (huh huh). On the flip side, there's a max win of 9,000 times your stake to keep you motivated which is significantly higher than the usual 5000x potential seen in most other high variance slots from Play'n GO.
As many of you know by now, Play'n GO often looks for inspiration from other providers. In this case, it seems like Push Gaming has been their source of inspiration as we see some elements of both Wild Swarm (the theme and meter) and Jammin' Jars (the mobile multiplier wilds). Nonetheless, when it comes to grid slots, that's where Play'n GO excels, and Honey Rush is no exception to the rule. With sweet visuals and excellelent potential, this slot is buzzing with features that are bound to keep players entertained for sessions on end.
Good
Honey Rush is an all-around solid game, and any Play’n GO cluster fan would undoubtedly have a good time with it.
