Eagle Riches (Red Tiger): Overview

Does the world really need one more American Wilderness slot? The folks at Red Tiger are in the affirmative with their latest release Eagle Riches. Once more, players are encouraged to strap on their hiking boots for a trek through the desert and the scrub. These huge, wide vistas conjure up the mystery of Native Americans, their naturalistic ways, the magic of the empty countryside, the wind whistling through the canyons. Yes, it is wonderful scenery, no one can deny that, but Eagle Riches is going to need to do something special to make an impact.

Fair dues where it is earned. This is Red Tiger’s first foray into this part of the world, and visually they have done a great job. The background image of the desert is atmospheric, and the symbols are clear and detailed. The graphical standard has certainly improved since these styles of slots first appeared. There are 10 base game pay symbols, five low and five high. The low 9 – A symbols have been done in a Wild West font and look like they are made out of tarnished bronze, silver and gold. The high pay symbols are all pictures and classic animals of the range. First up is the cougar, followed by a ram, wolf, bison, and the eagle. As you’d expect the eagle is worth the most at 20 times the stake for 5 of a kind. Actually, only two eagles on a payline result in a win, while all other symbols need at least three.

There are 40 paylines in total, spread out over the 5x4 grid. To get it spinning players select bet levels that range from 10 p/c up to $/€100 per go. For that, they get an RTP slightly below average on 95.68% coupled with medium/high volatility. When it comes to extras, the game is almost as barren as the picture in the background. Base game spins can get tedious, but, every now and then one of the features will show up to alter the pace of the action.

Eagle Riches (Red Tiger): Features

Free spin feature

We will breeze through this section as there aren’t many features to cover - there is not even a wild symbol in sight. Two extra features in total are available that revolve around the use of eagles. The first is the Eagles Shadow feature which can appear at any time, randomly, during base game and bonus round spins. Without warning, an eagle will fly over the grid. Where its shadow touches, more or less, changes lower-paying symbols into one common high paying symbol.

The second feature is the Eagle Spins. The Eagle Spin symbols land on reels 1, 3, and 5, and when 3 are in view, they trigger 10 free spins. While Eagle Spins are in play the chances of triggering the Eagle Shadow increases, which is good because you are going to need that lucky bird to get anywhere. During the first session of testing, we got lucky and landed 3 scatters within the first 10 spins which always go down well. That warm glow began to dissipate after 7 completely dead free spins without landing a thing. Then, from nowhere, the Eagle Shadow triggered twice in a row to dish up some solid reward and save what was turning into a major disappointment. Only mentioning it because fortunes can turn in a moment with Eagle Riches, for better or for worse.

Eagle Riches (Red Tiger): Verdict

When the game first loads, the memories of 50 other wilderness slots come flooding back in an instant. That can make it difficult to come up with an objective opinion but let’s do our best. Graphically, the game is fairly attractive, and as we mentioned before we’ve come a long way since those early Eagle themed slots like Eagle Bucks, American Eagle and so on. No, the theme is not original, but it doesn't always have to be. In this very case, the game has been styled nicely.

Despite the good looks, there’s no getting around the lack of originality which causes Eagle Riches to lose points. Fans of these types of games might view that as a good thing though - they will certainly know what they are getting themselves in for. But, a dash more innovation and one or two more features would have broadened the game’s appeal to a wider range of players. In saying that, the features that Eagle Riches does have work quite well. When the Eagle Shadow shows up, it can drastically alter a spin for the better and rake in some wins. It is more likely to show up during free spins too which makes the bonus game even more desirable.

Truth be told, getting anywhere with Eagle Riches relies heavily on the free spins, since there isn’t really anything else happening in the base game. Land the right combination of Eagle Spins and Eagle Shadows and the game is capable of paying out up 2,412 times the stake. That might not be enough to motivate players to battle through a pretty uneventful base game that doesn’t have much going on.

Two reasonable features on their own are not enough to make Eagle Riches an unmissable gaming experience, unless you are a wilderness connoisseur. That advice more or less applies to the whole slot - only diehard cowboys really need apply. If that sounds like you, just sit back and enjoy. If not, then there aren’t too many reasons to add Eagle Riches to your list of slots to try.

Mediocre

Eagle Riches is a lush looking wilderness slot that has its entertaining moments but is a little too light on features and originality.
