DJ Cat: Slot Overview
Get ready to throw a few shapes, chase lasers, or just look cool while chilling with developer Push Gaming in its online slot DJ Cat. You're right, this is not the studio's first 'DJ' game, that would be DJ Fox, released a few months before this one. Both share more than just an interest in spinning records for enthusiastic partygoers. As before, DJ Cat is one of Push Gaming's Push-Up slots, featuring a Win What You See method of awarding wins, though with larger possible multipliers than before as one of its key selling points.
Also like DJ Fox, DJ Cat is held in a venue lit by an overwhelming light show to accompany the boomin' tunes. Well, it might be overwhelming depending on a punter's state of mind, but the music is nicely done, with DJ Cat mixing it up on the right-hand side of the screen. This time, the DJ is a human, with cat ears on her hat, rather than an actual fox, not that this makes any difference to the action side of things. One cosmetic difference which is able to impact a session is that Push Gaming has removed the one single multiplier meter used in DJ Fox and replaced it with five multiplier meters, one linked to each of the gaming grid's 5 rows.
Each row on the game grid has 4 positions for active symbols or duds to land. In the regular/default mode, each spin starts with the bottom row active, while the rest are inactive. At this level, the bet range is 10 c to $/€100 per spin, however, the Push-Up feature lets players start game rounds with extra rows active, as explained below. A highly volatile math model drives the action, and at the default betting level, the RTP is 96.32%.
DJ Cat: Slot Features
DJ Cat doesn't deviate massively from DJ Fox in the features department, mainly making changes to its multipliers while delivering its Win What You See pay mechanics, Arrow symbols, and Push-Ups.
Arrow Symbol
When an Arrow symbol is present on an active reel, the next row becomes active, and the Arrow symbol is removed from the reels. When a new row becomes active, any Arrow symbols on the new row go on to activate the next row. A respin is also awarded. Arrows do not land on the top row or on activated rows.
Win What You See
Regular symbols land displaying numerical values and are evaluated from left to right on their active row. The dud symbol is a valueless blocker. So, for example, if a 2, dud, dud, 0 lands on an active row, players win 0.2x their bet. If a 2, 0, dud, dud hits on an active row, the reward is 2x the bet. Say a 2, dud 5, dud hits, players win 0.2x + 0.5x for a total of 0.7x the bet.
Multiplier Meter
When a VIP symbol or Double VIP symbol hits on an active reel, it is collected by the row's multiplier meter, then removed from the row. When a VIP or Double VIP symbol is collected, a respin is awarded. During respins, all dud positions respin, while all number symbols are held in place. When respins have concluded, all active rows are evaluated for wins. At the end of a spin, each line win is multiplied by the value highlighted on the relevant multiplier meter. The values on each multiplier meter are: Row 1 - x2, x3, x10; Row 2 – x3, x5, x10; Row 3 – x5, x10, x15; Row 4 – x10, x15, x20; Row 5 – x20, x50, x100.
To be awarded one of the win multipliers, a VIP symbol must be collected on the associated row. A VIP symbol increases the corresponding Multiplier by +1 segment, a Double VIP symbol increases it by +2 segments. At the start of a new spin, Multiplier meters reset.
Push-Up
Players may use the Push-Up function to start each spin with more rows active. Starting with 2, 3, 4, or 5 rows active increases the stake by 2.5x (RTP 96.39%), 5x (RTP 96.27%), 7.5x (RTP 96.25%), or 10x (RTP 96.37%) the base bet, respectively. When using the Push-Up, wins are evaluated in respect to the base bet amount.
DJ Cat: Slot Verdict
Unless you extensively played DJ Fox, it might be hard to discern much difference between that one and DJ Cat (besides the audiovisuals). Not a lot has changed. Certainly, it's not the shift Generous Jack to DJ Fox was. The goal remains hitting number symbols, activating higher rows, and crossing your fingers that multipliers are going to work their way in there somehow. This makes the new Double VIP symbol special since it activates +2 segments on a multiplier meter, but in some ways, the job of getting bigger multipliers is tougher, perhaps, since each row has one, and the best results are available at the higher rows.
Not sure if this way is necessarily better or worse than it was in DJ Fox. Certainly, this method has had zero effect on the max win, which remains the same at 10,000x the bet. As before, what you see isn't totally what you get since number symbol values are multiplied by 0.1 to calculate their base bet payout values. One thing's for sure, you really want the upper rows to be activated in DJ Cat since the higher multipliers are accessible from them, which may encourage some gamblers to splurge on the Push-Up function. Maybe not, just a thought, and it's a fast-track optional approach. Sticking with the regular 1-row active at the start of each spin is capable of being entertaining, if slower going, and less exhilarating on the whole.
DJ Cat produced mixed results. It's a good Push-Up game, nicely produced and all, but gamblers who got a kick out of DJ Fox might have been expecting more from it than this. Maybe not, but DJ Cat didn't make the impression it was a superior game to its foxy pal.
Good
Despite Push Gaming making changes to the multiplier system, DJ Cat is much the same game as its predecessor.
