Chaos Crew 2: Slot Overview
The original Chaos Crew slot dropped in 2020 and combined Banksy-like visuals with a punk ethos and some excellent features to help cement developer Hacksaw Gaming's transition from scratch card guys to makers of some of the finest slots on the market. If you're the sort of gambler who can't get enough chaos on the reels, then good news cos the team has pushed out a sequel. Chaos Crew 2 is the result, and it brings back a lot of the things that made the original stand out while pouring in a ton of new stuff to make a slot which is bigger and extra chaotic in almost every regard.
The graphics have been played with, too, but Chaos Crew 2 has the same unusual hanging in a back alley covered in neon graffiti atmosphere of the first game. Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull also make a return, not just on the reels as special multiplier symbols, but they stand on either side of the gaming grid looking menacing. One like a bat-wielding thug, the other like the Grim Reaper wearing a Hacksaw Gaming hoodie. The soundtrack has a menace to it as well, at least when the gaming's ticking along at a slower pace, it does. When something more exciting occurs, and the pace picks up, so do the tunes, flipping from dirge to dance party at the click of the fingers.
As before, Chaos Crew 2 is played on a 5x5 sized gaming panel, though this one has 19 fixed paylines rather than 15. As expected, it's a highly volatile game in general, though volatility can change when buying features from the feature buy menu. The RTP alters as well when buying features, where the default value is 96.27%. When picking a stake, users have options of 10 p/c to $/€100, though the max bet can be higher depending on the casino.
A different group of pay symbols has been designed for Chaos Crew 2, and there are 10 of them in total. They are a heart, a face, wings, an anarchy sign, an 8 ball, dice, a mouth, another face, diamonds, and an eyeballed pyramid. Pay symbols pay left to right from the leftmost side of the reels, and a 5 OAK win is worth 2 to 10 times the bet.
Chaos Crew 2: Slot Features
Players accustomed to the way Chaos Crew functions should feel comfy with how Chaos Crew 2 does as well since the gameplay and features are similar – there's just way more of them. Here's how it goes.
Epic Drop
This feature may trigger randomly at the start of each base game spin. When activated, the game transitions to the bonus round and at least 5 multiplier symbols from the bonus land to award their multipliers. On the next spin, the game returns to normal unless another Epic Drop triggers.
Cranky Cat
The Cranky Cat symbol is a wild multiplier that multiplies any win it is part of. More than one Cranky Cat can land to be part of the same win or different ones. When more than one Cranky Cat is part of a win, then the values multiply together before being used. The Cranky Cat multiplier values are x2-x5, x10, or x20. In the base game, one Cranky Cat can land per reel, substituting for all pay symbols.
Bonus
Landing 3 scatter symbols in the base game triggers the bonus game. In the bonus round, only non-paying symbols and multiplier scatters may appear. Here, 3 spins are awarded, which reset whenever a multiplier symbol hits. Above each reel is a multiplier that starts at x1. When multiplier symbols land, they increase reel multipliers, and at the end, all reel multipliers are added together and awarded. The multiplier symbols are:
- Sketchy Skull – adds its value to the reel multiplier above it.
- Sticky Sketchy Skull – locks to the grid and adds its value to the reel above it on every subsequent spin.
- Epic Sketchy Skull – adds its value to all reel multipliers.
- Sticky Epic Sketchy Skull – locks to the grid and adds its value to all reel multipliers on every subsequent spin.
- Cranky Cat – multiplies the reel multiplier above with its value.
- Sticky Cranky Cat – locks to the grid and multiplies the reel multiplier above with its value on every subsequent spin.
- Epic Cranky Cat - multiplies all reel multipliers with its value.
- Sticky Epic Cranky Cat - multiplies all reel multipliers with its value on every subsequent spin.
Sketchy Cat symbols can have values of 1x-5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 100x, while Cranky Cat can have values of x2-x5, x10, or x20.
Super Bonus
Landing 4 scatters in the base game triggers the Super Bonus round. The rules are the same as the regular bonus round, except on the first spin, at least 7 multiplier symbols will land.
Best of Bonus
When 3 scatters and a Best of Bonus scatter symbol land in the base game, the Best of Bonus feature is activated. This feature awards 3 bonus rounds in a row, playing them all one at a time and recording the score of each. At the end of the third bonus round, the best result of the three is awarded.
Best of Super Bonus
When 4 scatters and a Best of Bonus scatter symbol hit in the base game, then the Best of Super Bonus feature triggers. This feature awards 3 super bonus rounds in a row, playing them all one at a time and recording the score of each. At the end of the third super bonus round, the best result of the three is awarded.
Buy Bonus
From the feature buy menu menu, players are able to buy any of the features previously covered:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins – 5x the bet where each spin is 10 times more likely to trigger a bonus game. Volatility extreme where the default RTP is 96.22%.
- Epic Drop FeatureSpins – 200x the bet for an Epic Drop spin with at least 15 multiplier symbols. Highly volatile where the default RTP is 96.35%.
- Bonus – 100x the bet to buy the bonus round. Very highly volatile where the default RTP is 96.34%.
- Super Bonus – 250x the bet to buy the super bonus round. Very highly volatile, where the default RTP is 96.3%.
- Best of Bonus – 200x the bet to buy the best of bonus. Highly volatile where the default RTP is 96.29%.
- Best of Super Bonus – 500x the bet to buy the best of super bonus. Highly volatile where the default RTP is 96.35%.
Chaos Crew 2: Slot Verdict
For Chaos Crew 2, Hacksaw Gaming has taken a bigger is better approach and added a stack of new bits. Most, if not all, of the additions should pique the interest of players who got a kick out of the original, as well as anyone curious about unique hold 'n win style games. Hopefully, dead spins aren't a turn-off because Chaos Crew 2 delivered quite a few, making the base game a grind at times. However, the Epic Drop did a surprisingly good job of bringing the balance back, so waiting for bonus rounds to trigger felt more like treading water than getting completely sucked under. Not always, though; Chaos Crew 2 is still capable of choking back a balance when it's in the mood. Others' results may vary, of course, just saying the Epic Drop is a decent base game feature which helped with engagement, and it felt like a sizable chunk of the base game RTP had been funnelled into this feature. On a side note, bonus games triggered far, far more often when the BonusHunt FeatureSpins was turned on. In fact, it was like playing a completely different game.
Chaos Crew's bonus round was one of the main things that helped set it apart, and there are no less than four of them now in Chaos Crew 2. Each one offers progressively greater thrills, theoretically, climaxing in the Best of Super Bonus, and it would be of interest to know the natural trigger frequency of each. Not least because the higher rounds are a tad pricey to buy. Leaving aside the monetary concerns, Chaos Crew 2's bonus rounds were every bit as good as the original game's, if not more so. There are extra multiplier symbols to look out for, including sticky versions, though those were unsurprisingly quite rare. Useful when they hit, though, and the Sticky Epic Cranky Cat is a highly desirable symbol. For winning potential, Hacksaw Gaming has literally doubled the win cap, pushing it out to 20,000x the bet, making Chaos Crew 2 one of the highest potential slots in the studio's collection.
To sum up, Chaos Crew 2 is like Chaos Crew on roids, as almost every part has been elongated, stretched, or tweaked to become a bigger, potentially more wild slot than the original. It was a challenging game, tough to organically trigger bonus rounds (though activating BonusHunt FeatureSpins made a huge difference), so it may have a stronger appeal amongst players who like to buy features, though not necessarily. However gamblers choose to play, if the thought of tangling with an evolved Sketchy Skull and Cranky Cat, packing a wider range of features appeals, then Chaos Crew 2 provides a much larger arena in which to do so.
