They’re like Bill and Sookie in season 3. Lies and hate sex.

Tara does seem to be paralleling a little Bill this season. They both asume other persona’s. Although I understand why Tara lied about her life but it still doesn’t make it right. Pam is going to attack Naomi. I don’t know if she will kill her but if Pam does Tara will be partly to blame.

And either way, Naomi dead or not, this will lead Tara to join Marnie/Antonia on her anti-vampire quest. Of course, this will pit Tara against Sookie. But I so don’t want to watch any of it.

You know its just going to lead to a make out session that is going to take up way too much screen time in an episode that is devoted to Eric and Sookie getting freaky. FARK. I just.. why do they even bother with Tara as a character?? She is like our cross to bear or something.

Eric and Sookie will probably have short scenes again like they have been having this season. The lake scene will probably happen the last 50 seconds of the show. I just hope E/S get to have another good conversation and that the conversation lasts longer. I don’t want some extremely edited version of a conversation.

Serena, something like that could be said for this entire season. What we need is an Eric & Sookie Hour…just to get freaky. I’m game. Anybody else?

Could it be that Naomi is a supe?

      • Tracy says:

THAT would be awesome, especially knowing how Tara feels about supes now, or did at the end of last season.

But yeah – Tara is taking up precious E/S space.

I thought that Naomi is supposed to be some type of supe. Some people wanted Pam/Tara to get together but I don’t think I really want that. I would want Pam to find someone else.

I want Tara to find somebody…on the other side of the world. That girl has gotten on my nerves from the beginning, screaming about this and going off about that. I have to say, though, until she started screaming at Eric last epi this has been one of the quietest seasons of Tara in a long time. But still…I am perfectly fine with Book!Tara but TB!Tara?? Oh my…don’t get me started…

I don’t mind when Tara rants about Bill but when she starts in on Eric that I have problem with. I think that is another reason why even more people are annoyed with her this season. I like Tara but even I am getting fed up with her attitude.

            • Jen says:

I don’t get that. What other attitude would she have? All the vampires she’s had contact with have terrorized her or treated her like a useless blood bag.

I get people not liking her personality, but I don’t understand the rage about her being anti-Vamp.

*shrug* I know this isn’t a popular opinion around here.

            • Kirsten says:

Well for one thing, she’s outraged that Eric attacked her, but fails to remember she was trying to stake him at the time. For another, she ASKED Sookie to go talk to Eric to smooth things over with Lafayette, then goes ballistic at him being in Sookie’s house, which she ALREADY KNOWS he owns, because Sookie told her. So yeah, it’s tiresome that she goes between frothing at the mouth at the sight of Eric and cheerfully asking her friend to go have a chat with this murderous raving psycho vamp.

            • Tracy says:

Yeah, that is a good point. Though LIVING here and dropping by to talk to Sookie about what she wanted her to talk to him about are two different things.

Regardless, I am no Tara fan either. I think Rutina is a great actress, but I can’t stand how they write the character.

            • Serena says:

Also, that same murderous raving psycho vampire gave Lafayette a car, which led to her having her own car in which she could drive down to New Orleans and have her own life away from Bon Temps! But again, he’s bad! Ugh, Tara, ugh!

            • Serena says:

Hmm.. I think Tara gets a negative response for her anti-vampire stance not merely because she’s anti-vampire, but because Tara has been the character that calls out others for their racism since her first appearance on the show. She barely knows Eric, yet she’s willing to lump him in with ‘all the bad vampires’ when Tara is more than willing to play the race card whenever it includes others discriminating against her. She’s become a hypocrite. :?

And well.. quite frankly.. Tara is not entertaining to watch anymore. I’m not really surprised people are turning on her and want her to DIAF.

              I sure do.

            • Snarksville says:

Yeah, Tara forgets that, with Eric, there is another side to the story. I really think that when Eric is cruel it isn’t cruel to be cruel. It’s cruel in a punishment sort of way. Yes he locked LaLa in the dungeon…after he was caught dealing vamp blood. Yes he locked Sookie in the dungeon..to protect her from RE. He attacked Tara because she was about to stake him. He went after Marnie because Marnie wasn’t cooperating (not how I’d handle that situation myself but I’m not Eric).

Marnie, before being completely possessed by Antonia, was mad because Eric interrupted what they were doing. Well, what they were doing was detrimental to the vampires and, as vamps have their own brand of justice and law enforcement (and Beehl is a complete douchebag anyway who shouldn’t be Queen to begin with), I think that Eric’s tactics were in line with their code of conduct, which obviously doesn’t go along with humans. To humans? Yes he seems cruel; to Vamps he is in line. I guess it depends on how you look at it.

I thought Naomi’s acting was good so far … but maybe it was just her comfort level being naked. That chokehold and take down (as pointed out by MASpencer) was brutally unconvincing, and when she makes to leave the room it lacks any purpose, like she’s aniticipating being stopped before getting to the door. It’s like a high school play. This scene annoys me with suprising intensity.

I agree. First, I will tolerate Tara this season, because hers is the storyline that brought us the joy that is James Frain as Franklin Mott. Second, maybe she foolishly believes Marnie’s “we are being protected” spiel and that’s why she turns to her. And that when she realizes Marnie is on VampireQuest 2011 and causing the problems, she’ll turn away.

Denying_Area, you are so right! We got the James Frain/Franklin Mott storyline out of Tara and that was freaking awesome! We need more of that.

I know many won’t agree with me, but I also liked her with Sam. He was good to her and I wished she could have been more understanding with him. I get her apprehension about vamps but shifters have done nothing to her.

This whole angry witches brew gives me a headache. I hope Tara, Lafy, and Jesus move on from them. Sooner rather than later.

I really liked season one Tara and I thought she was good in season 3 too. However, this season I am getting fed up with her. She just makes a lot of really poor choices like Miss Janette, Maryanne/Eggs, Franklin, her fake identity, running at Eric with a stake, choosing the wrong side Marnie/Antonia etc…. How many times does she have to make the same mistakes?

I agree, Scratch. It’s good having a strong female character, one that doesn’t mind fighting and getting a little dirty. I like aggressive Tara. Sookie kind of goes in and out–which is fine too–but Tara is consistently a hard-ass. I’d like to see more hard-ass, less whiny ass bitch.

As much as I wish for Niaomi to throttle her, this is ultimately going to lead to angry lesbian sex.

Should I expect anything real to come from telling someone a bunch of lies? You know, like throwing a punch and walking off? I would expect a normal person to do that. But no, not in AB’s world.

I actually wanted to virtually drop kick Tara in the last episode.

      She ain’t no Buffy.

During that whole scene with Sookie at her house I was SMH.
Did Tara suddenly develope amnesia ffs?
“Would you forgive Bill?” she says.

Did she forget that Bill drained Sookie in the van and she kicked his ass out? Went postal on him at the hospital? That she told Sookie that Bill never lifted a finger to help her at Russell’s? That she told Sookie she was acting like “A dumb bitch in a country song?”

      Shoddy writing. The continuity stinks.
Tara and her gal pal can exit stage left anytime as far as I’m concerned (which I’m not. AT ALL.) GTFO.

So true. This amnesia everyone seems to be having about Bill is beyond annoying. Now we have Tara acting like all Bill ever did was lie to Sookie while managing to remember everything Eric’s ever done. It’s getting really old.

          • John Nightingale says:

That’s who I blame too because everybody but him seems to remember all the shit that Bill has done. Sookie’s trip to fairy seems to have given her some memory issues. AB wrote the story line of Beel letting the Rats beat up Sook and now I think he is regretting it and trying to undo the damage by pretending that it never happened or wasn’t as bad it it seemed at the time. Sorry AB but letting a woman be beaten nearly to death so that she will have the hots for you is sick in the extreme even if you don’t seem to think so given that you have not had Sookie or Bill even mention it in Season 4!!!

        • C.K. says:

Tara even mentioned that it is fine if Sookie and Bill were back together “no judgement”. hearts desire you are so right it is like there is selective memory going around for many of the characters. Sookie still needs to address the Rattray situation but it could just be swept under the rug. It’s like the thing never happened.

I thought it was interesting that Tara, when asked as to why she lied, said something about it was the life she wished she had. On the forum, there was speculation about Tara’s future role in the show and some thoughts that maybe she would replace the Arlene/betrayal storyline from the books. I could see this happening because of how much she always wanted Sookie’s life and is now watching her life be consumed by vampires, an entire race Tara has pitted herself against. I imagine she’ll be one of the reluctant to help the witch crusade upon realizing they are NO better than the vampires, simply dangerous in an entirely different way, but I have a feeling the damage between her and Sookie will already be done.

      • Donna says:

You could be right, from the clips we have seen it shows her standing with the witches. I was wondering that myself about if they were going to do the betrayal storyline because it was so prominent in the books.

I would LOVE for Naomi to be TB’s version of Quinn. Or she could be Frannie. If Pam kills her…that could bring Quinn into the picture. Not that I’m a fan of Quinn or anything…but I would love for someone other than Beehl to be in that triangle. Meanwhile, I have wondered if Tara will take on Arlene’s FoTS role from the books. Hmmmmm…based on the CC preview, I’m guessing Sookie gets shot by Tara and her stupid wooden bullets.

You know, that is a good pick up. That would definently be a good opening for Quinn to enter, stage right, to find out what happened to his baby sister, if she were murdered. Tara is ok. At least she hates all vampires equally. Last season it was all about Bill, since he and Sookie were together and this season it’s about Eric since Sookie is with Eric now.

Yes the vampires on the show are horrible, and she has been affected by them personally and she has seen Sookie affected by them but she does not understand Sookie’s POV. Sookie’s fascination with Vampires comes from her being different too and being able to read minds and Tara will never understand that. It’s black and white for her.

But the main problem is that Tara is pointless as a character. I though she and Sam had tons of chemistry. Instead of having Sam off with Luna and Tara with Naomi, the writers could have somehow tried to bring these two characters together and given them and interesting story. We could have saved some time on them having one plot for other more interesting stories. Instead the writers are spending time developing two romances (Sam and Luna and Tara and Naomi) that no one cares about while Eric and Sookie, who people have waited for 4 years, get hardly any screen time.

      • John Nightingale says:

Exactly Amy – we’ve been waiting for 4 years and it’s been a long 4 years. I have never believed in Tara as a character. They knew she wasn’t working out so they tried to reinvent her but they have failed. She’s not convincing as a lesbian/bisexual woman any more than she was when she was straight. The only female I’ve ever believed was having sex on the show is Sookie because like most of the human race she prefers to have sex with her clothes off. All of Tara’s supposedly “raunchy” scenes have done absolutely nothing for me and if she goes and has angry sex with Naomi at the expense of Eric and Sookie I will blow a fuse and I am already pissed off with how little Eric and Sookie we have been given.

I’d rather of not had a sneak peak at all if all we were getting was a Tara Clip. I used to really like Tara, of course she annoyed/pissed me off at times, but mostly I liked her. This Season tho the Writers kept saying we were gonna see a different Tara. So I thought ok Tara has been gone a Year she has grown, an is more calm, an mature. The Season mostly seemed to start that way. We knew she still didn’t like Vamps, but i’m ok with that she wasn’t acting like she was letting her anger/hate rule her anymore. Then as soon as she gets back to Bon Temps, an Eric shows up she is back to being her old self again. I dont Care if she likes Eric or not, but be honest atleast dont be a flipping hypocrit. Tara could have atleast admitted that she tried to stake Eric, an thats why he attacked her. Marnie is the one who got bit lol, but Tara is going on an on like Eric came to that Shop just to kill her. Also she came back to see Sookie/Lafayette she saw nothings changed in Bon Temps went on an on about how much she hates it. Then GTFO Tara go back to New Orleans. tara will blame her problems once again on Supes-Vamps in general. No Tara its about time you owned your Shit you are the one who keeps making the same Damn mistakes then playing the victim card. The Vamps didn’t make her lie to her G/F that was all her so own your Shit.

      • Donna says:

Exactly even when she was talking to Sookie at Merlotte’s she said Eric attacked me- well why did Eric attack you? Because you tried to stake him. but she left that part out. Maybe Sookie should have told her but Tara knew Eric bought the house and had a cubby so it shouldn’t been that much of a shock. And if she hates Bon Temps so much why didn’t she just call Sookie instead of coming to a place she hates so much.

I agree L, I think the Tara hate is unwarranted too, I don’t think her S/L with Naomi is taking away from Eric/Sookie, this will be the second time we see these two together since the first episode, there are a lot of other S/Ls that can just be equally blamed for the lack of more Eric/Sookie, not just Tara’s.

And I love love Eric, but Tara I don’t get how some people last season applauded Tara for telling Sookie the truth about Bill, but want her dead when she does it to Eric.

I like Rutina Wesley and I want to see her stay as part of the cast, so I really blame the writers for not allowing Tara to grow, not allowing her to face her fears and her issues for this past year, I blame the writers for having her just run away from the problems and internalizing her hatred for vampires, but never trying to get better from the inside, out. I’m not giving up on Tara, so please AB don’t kill her off and ya’ll writers need to do better with her character.

I am so with you KC. As a black woman I am so tired of the constant ‘angry black woman Tara’ character. In the earlier episodes although it was obvious she was a damaged person because of her dysfunctional childhood, she was shown to be extremely intelligent (reading all the time, being able to get Jason out of jail, etc.) and even though she was confrontational it was done with a strong viewpoint that wasn’t weighed down by hysterics. I have mentioned in other posts I miss the Tara that first met Maryanne (after car crash) and wore beautiful clothes, had a glow about her, had hot, loving sex with Eggs and rolled blunts in the kitchen. All before the Maenad Gone Wild sequence, of course. But her character has become this shrew that will turn on Sookie in a heartbeat and will never listen to the end of anyone elses sentence. She has no moral compass, lies like a dog on a rug and has trouble accounting for any of her actions that seem to escalate a lot of her traumas. I hope TB gets a chance to take Tara some place the way Lafayettes character is growing. When she has sweet moments they are wonderful…but they are so few and far between that the Tara character is grinding on a lot of people. This is unfair to the friendship that Sookie & Tara have had and should be still having now.

I’m finding everyone’s story line but Tara’s interesting this season. I’m just tired of Tara’s attitude and selfishness – storming off whenever it suits her. Every time she has a revelation during a conversation with Sookie and admits to crappy behavior, she flies off the handle 10 seconds later over something else. No development or growth there, just stagnant wallowing.

Tara also has a selective memory. She was all upset with Sookie for being away for a year and not keeping in touch but forgets that before Sookie was told the truth about Bill, Tara had told Sookie she would be back later when all along she was planning on leaving town. If ever Sookie could have done with a friend it would have been that night, maybe then Sookie would have cried her eyes out to Tara and not lost a year of her life. And of course there is the fact that she tried to stake Eric when none of that was any of her business. Eric wasn’t attacking Lala and the only thing Tara knew about Marnie was that she planned to raise a human body from the dead – that makes Eric worth staking?

Then she has the gall to give Lala a lecture about only being in town for 2 hours and she’s being attacked by a vampire – she makes me sick, she is just so full of hate and self pity and she was like that long before she met Franklin. They have tried to reinvent Tara and they have failed, they should just bite the bullet and kill her off. I don’t want to see her given yet another lease of life as a vampire or something just because they want her character to work. Her story line is one of the many on the show that slows down each episode. With fewer stories to tell each episode would flow better and the whole show would be much more slick.

We have had a show already about vampire slayers and it was ok if you like that sort of thing which I didn’t but we don’t need a Buffy style vigilante on True Blood – kill Tara off AB and move on.

Why can’t the writers help the Tara character to evolve instead of ‘killing her off’? I like that good Southern Girl Sookie has a cool Black friend who, when it is written well, has Sook’s back in a jam. I can’t see Arlene or Holly or any of the other women in Bon Temp busting into Sookie’s jail/room at Russell’s and tangling with a werewolf to save her butt or take on the police toe to toe to spring Jason out of Jail? And as ill advised the move on Eric at the Goddess shop was, she was doing her best to take on Eric who was basically assaulting a human woman. I am 100% behind KCNorthman- the writers are to blame, not the Tara character. Sookie needs a friend who knows her from way back when and understands Sookie’s ‘talents’, family and current situation. Tara has those qualities. I don’t think the ‘Toni’ character was suppose to reinvent Tara as much as show how extreme Tara had to go to escape Bon Temp. And that has obviously failed. So we are still dealing with Bon Temp Tara. Now let’s move her character forward as they have done for Lafayette, who has learned how to love with Jesus and has, it seems, released his criminal activities of V dealing and prostitution. THAT is how to move a character forward.
